Young people in the UK less aware of HIV/Aids dangers

Awareness of the dangers of HIV/Aids is decreasing among young people at a time when fewer are practising safe sex, a survey has revealed. Nearly 60% of 16 to 24-year-olds believe there is no risk of contracting HIV after unprotected sex, survey reveals.

Experts warn of HIV problems in Britain

Medical experts in Britain say the Department of Health is not doing enough to highlight the risks associated with HIV, leading to its spread. The Sunday Times of London reported senior doctors have accused the British department of not properly testing specific high-risk groups such as black Africans and gay men.

Report Estimates Significant Impact Of Widespread Circumcision Effort In Botswana

It is known that male circumcision reduces the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men. Botswana’s campaign to circumcise about 500,000 men by 2012 will prevent nearly 70,000 new HIV cases by 2025, according to a report published Thursday in the Journal of the International AIDS Society. The government’s national campaign aims to circumcise 460,000 men over the next five years, and the country has begun airing television and radio advertisements to encourage men to be circumcised at local clinics.
